About “Static”

What a jumbled mess a person may exclaim! Nothing is in order other than the regularity of the precise stacking of these blocks of wire and rope, and precisely positioned knots.

It’s the rhythm of the chaos that is calming. The reflective brilliance of the humble worn line. The cadence of constants of a life of lobstering. The unity of the elements, sequentially filling the page. The continual contrasts of the receding greys to the abyss.

The afternoon was hot when I shot this picture with the grass scratching at my ankles. Many days and nights I spent on the remote Maine island of Monhegan. Population 46. Hearty, opinionated souls who lobster for a living beginning in October. “Static’ represents tools of the Monheganers daily livelihood, stowed for the summer making way for the tourists.
